Before you begin...
- Is FE Sector

To Apply Settings
- Ensure that the Is FE Sector checkbox is selected and the SIR UKPRN number is entered within the Employer form's Main Details tab.
- Go to Cintra iQ: Payroll> Payroll Setup> Employer Setup> Employers window> definition> New/Open button> employer form> Education Details tab
SIR UKPRN field
The SIR UKPRN field only becomes enabled when the Is Further Education Sector checkbox is selected, and only accepts an eight digit number between 10000000 and 99999999.

03 Multiple contract number | If an employee has more than one post in the SIR return year, a SIR return is created for each post, with the multiple contract number displayed to represent the post. 04 Gender | The Gender displayed in the SIR Workforce Data window is the SIR code translation of the data entered for gender for the employee's Gender in the Cintra iQ Personal Details form. 05 Date of Birth | The Date of Birth displayed in the SIR Workforce Data window is the employee's date of birth, as entered in the Personal Details form. The employee's age cannot be younger than 15 at the beginning of the academic year. This is to reflect the increasing numbers of apprentices employed by providers. 12 Ethnicity |
The Ethnicity displayed in the SIR Workforce Data window is the SIR code translation of the data entered for UK Ethnic Group for the employee in the Personal Details form. Note:When the UK Ethnicity Group field is updated for an employee in the Personal Details form, it appears on the generated SIR return. But if you change the Ethnicity data in the SIR Workforce Data window, the update is not copied back to the Personal Details form. |
13 Disability |
The Disability displayed in the SIR Workforce Data window is the SIR code translation of the data entered for employee's disability status in the Personal Details form. Note:You can change this data for an employee in the SIR Workforce Data window by selecting from the Disability drop-down list. 14 Terms of Employment |
This is derived from a function in the Cintra iQ database, although in most cases it is the SIR Code translation of the Employment Status, as entered in the Employment Details form. 24 Main Subject Taught |

25 Category of Work |
When the SIR return is generated, the category of work displayed for an employee is the SIR Category of Work associated with the Post that the Employee is in. The SIR Return links from tables Employee in Post to Post to Job to arrive at the category. Go to Cintra iQ:

26 Annual Pay |
Annual pay is the Gross pay for work paid during the tax year, e.g. 2020/21 (6 April 2020 to 5 April 2021). In most cases this is not the same as Salary, as that is the rate of pay at a particular moment in time. It is represented on the SIR Workforce Data window as a six digit integer, with leading zeroes, representing the number of pounds earned in the SIR year. Note:This is a read only field in the SIR Workforce Data window. |
35 Sexual Orientation |
When the SIR return is generated, the sexual orientation of the employee is derived from the PERSON record and entered in the Personal Details form. It is then translated into the appropriate SIR code and displayed in the SIR Workforce Data window. |
36 Highest Qualification Held in the Main Area of Teaching |
When the SIR return is generated, Cintra iQ inspects the qualifications held for the employee in both the FE Qualifications and Qualification of Person tables. The data for these tables are entered within Cintra iQ in the Teaching form and the Education and Training form. The qualifications (teaching or other) that hold the area of learning of main subject taught are examined for the highest level. Note:The Area of Learning of the Main Subject Taught data is identified by field Area of Learning of the Main Subject Taught (SIR Field 24) and is matched against the qualification's SIR Area of Learning field. Within the qualification, the system looks at the data selected in the SIR Area of Learning drop-down list and displays the associated SIR National Framework Level options in the SIR Workforce Data window. If an employee has several qualifications, the one with the highest level is displayed once the SIR return is generated. Example:Melissa has two qualifications, one at SIR National Framework: 07 QCF Level 7 and 06 QCF Level 6. 07 QCF Level 7 is the highest of these qualifications’ and when the SIR return is generated, that is what is displayed on the SIR return. If the Level 7 qualification record is deleted and the SIR return is re-generate, the highest qualification held in the main area of teaching becomes Level 6. Note: You can change this data in the SIR Workforce Data window by selecting from the The Highest Qualfn Main Area Teaching drop-down list. The change is not copied back to any of the qualification records held against the employee.

40 Date of Start of Contract |
This is the date the employee commenced working in the post. Note:This is a read only field in the SIR Workforce Data window. |
41 Membership of Professional Body or Trade Organisation |
Important:This field is retired in SIR25. The SIR return records a 1 against an employee in the SIR return if the employee was a member of any Professional body or trade organisation during the SIR year. Save Changes | This button allows you to save any changes you have made to the SIR return data into the SIR_WORKFORCE_DATA table. Some data changes may also trigger updates to the PERSON and EMPLOYEE_IN_POST tables. (Refer to the Fields above for notes on which data field amendments trigger these additional table updates.) |
Generate Return Data |
This button is most commonly used only once per year per employer to generate the SIRreturn data. When the button is clicked, Cintra iQ interrogates person and teaching data held for the employees in the Cintra iQ database and displays a set of records that you can then modify and/or save.
Note:If a return has already been generated for the year, you are given a warning that to continue will overwrite existing SIR Return data for the year, potentially losing data changes that may have been made to the SIR Return data. If you opt to re-generate the data for the year, you are “starting again” and are compiling the return as though it was compiled for the first time for the SIR year. |
Validation Report | This button takes you to the SIR Validation Errors window where you can view any errors the report may have. |
Save As | This button allows you to save the SIR return data displayed in the SIR Workforce Data window in a format of your choice (e.g. Microsoft Excel). |
Generate XML File | This button allows you to create the return data xml file which can be submitted to the ETF. You can also save the xml file to a folder of your choice. |
Close | This button alerts you to any unsaved changes and closes the SIR Workforce Data window. |
